We uncover possible details on the last Silent Hill title to be released on the Playstation2...
The first details on ‘Silent Hill 4’ have found their way to our desks today; whilst the game has yet to be officially announced by Konami, our sources indicate the game is already in development for the Playstation2.
Takayoshi Sato and Akihiro Imamura will once again pair up to provide the cinematic and producer roles respectively, having previously worked together on ‘Silent Hill 2’.
It’s claimed that ‘Silent Hill 4’ will use a new graphics engine, created in collaboration between the ‘Silent Hill’ team and the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ team. The engine is optimised to display high-resolution textures, whilst also featuring advanced lighting support. The ‘Silent Hill 4’ engine is capable of displaying more polygons, however the framerate will be capped at 30FPS instead of the 60FPS witnessed in ‘Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater’.
Elsewhere it’s claimed that ‘Silent Hill 4’ will be the last title in the series for the Playstation2, before work begins on the next-generation of systems. Rough details suggest that the game will once again be an entirely new story, focussing around a 30-year-old man.
‘Silent Hill 4’ is scheduled for release towards the end of 2004 in Japan; hopefully the official announcement won’t be too far behind.
