: Rider FAQ Introduction
The Rider is a very powerful enemy in Breath of Fire IV,
who has the capability to take down your whole party in 1
minute! But, if you plan ahead the strategies you are going
to use on him, then you shouldn't have any problems. I will
teach you how to defeat this horid beast with ease...
The Rider's Location
The Rider dwells alone in a small room in Mukto which I
call "The Rider's Realm". Mukto is the ruins you enter upon
exiting Fou-Lu's Tomb. The Rider dwells in a hidden area in
Mukto, but he's not quite too hard to find! After riding
the elevator out of Fou-Lu's Tomb, walk behind the lift,
and jump across the gap. Next, walk to the left, then down.
You'll enter a hidden cave. The cave is narrow, and it
appears to be a dead end! But think again! On the rightmost
wall close to the cave entrance, you'll notice that it
looks a bit funny! It appears darker, and more cracked than
the rest of the walls! No kidding... It's a secret passage!
Have Ershin head-butt the wall, and exit the cave. You will
enter some hidden ruins. Walk down the stairs, and grab the
bag which sits at the end of the lower staircase. Keep
walking to the right, and you'll enter another cave! Climb
the ladders and jump down to grab some more bags. Climb the
ladders once again to exit the cave, and you'll enter some
more ruins. You tired? Ha ha ha... You're almost there!
Enter the temple. There... you've reached
"The Rider's Realm"! Open the chest in here to obtain a
"Dragon Tear"! While this accessory plays no role in
defeating the Rider, it is a rare and valuable item. This
sacred room is where Fou-Lu, the first emperor was summoned
into the world by an unknown entity! Read the script on the
statue to see that I'm not bluffing.
The Rider's Appearance
The Rider is a brownish/redish horse, with a knight in
silver armor riding it. The knight holds a long, freakish
looking pike in his hand, not to mention that he has fire
for a head, and the horse has fire for feet, and levitates
Information about the Rider
Treasures: Cursed Sword/King's Armor
Attacks: Cleave (Learnable), Benediction (Learnable),
Ragnarok, Disaster, Primus, replenishes 20000 HP each turn.
Info: "A warrior in search of the strongest opponents."
My personal theory of the Rider
I think that the Rider is an ancient ghost that has been
haunting that area for over 600 years! Perhaps the Rider
was a soldier who was killed by Fou-Lu during the war.
The Rider then inherited super-human strength after
death, to get back at whoever killed him! He now
currently haunts that one tiny room where he was killed
oh so long ago! He appears there, and waits for an
opponent to arrive to challenge him. When he was
alive, he must have been a good-hearted person,
who perhaps was once a priest, due to the fact that
the Rider is a fair fighter, in which he revives his
opponents when only 2 or 3 are left alive.
Time to kill!!!
Alright, this is the moment that you've been
waiting for! Time to do some heavy damage on the Rider!
Okay, before encountering him, be sure that all of your
characters are at Lv.50 or higher, and make sure that
you have the necessary items and magic that you'll
need. ie: Moontears, Whales, Vitamins, Nina's "Vigor"
spell, Cray's "Shield" spell, Cray's "Might" spell,
Scias' "ShiningBlade" spell. Also, be sure to have
these skills equipped on your characters: Super Combo
(Ryu), Focus (Ryu), Celerity, or Warshout (Ryu), or
if you have good power-up items, such as Rainbow
Trout, and Ginseng, then that will do. Why do
these skills have to be equipped on Ryu you ask?
Well, Ryu is the best choice to do hefty damage!
After you've taken a deep breath... and after
praying to God, then let's go for it!!! Walk around
the room until you encounter the Rider! Pray for a
"Green Swirl", and not a "Red Swirl"! Oh, in addition,
be sure that you have the skills: Shadowwalk,
Double Blow, Triple Blow, or Multistrike. Just one of
these 4 is fine. Although, I really do
suggest "Shadowwalk"! Equip it on Cray, or Ershin.
Also, try obtaining an "Elixer", or even better, an
"Elixer +", from the Morph Goo's. Although, they are
quite rare, so I don't expect you to obtain one! But
if you do obtain one, they come in handy when fighting
the Rider. Damage is reduced when an enemy uses an
elemental attack on you! Such as the Rider's
"Disaster", and "Ragnarok". Okay, back to the
fighting! Upon encountering the Rider, have Ryu
transform into the "Behemoth/Mammoth" dragon. (If you
are at an EXTREMELY HIGH LEVEL, then you
won't need to transform at all, otherwise, do so.
This dragon has alot of HP, and strong defense which
will be very helpful! Next, have Cray cast "Shield" on
the front rank, and have the 3rd person guard for
his/her life! Now, have Ryu cast Warshout or Celerity
to raise his power, have Cray keep casting "Shield"
every turn. (You'll notice that the Behemoth/Mammoth
dragon doesn't need to have its defense raised, this
is to keep the front rank alive!) If the Rider has
done major damage on your front rank, have the 3rd
person use a healing item or healing magic PRONTO!
If Ryu's power is at 800 or higher, then that's good
enough! Have Ryu cast "Focus", and have Cray keep
casting "Shield" on the front rank, while the 3rd
person heals up the party. At this point, your front
rank's defense should be quite high, and the Rider
won't do much damage any more! If the Rider had
already killed most of your characters at the start,
before raising your front rank's defense, well don't
worry! The Rider will cast "Benediction" if your
party is badly hurt. Ryu is the one who we are really
counting on anyway! Next, just have your front rank
guard like crazy. Wait until Ryu's focus meter is at
3, then it's time to attack!!! First, have Scias use
"ShiningBlade", then use "Shadowwalk", and finally
"Super Combo"! (Everybody else's power doesn't need
to be high, only Ryu's!) Having Ryu using Super Combo
on the 3rd turn will give you more time to press the
buttons, which will result in more hits! Now, this
part is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! Try not to mess up the
button presses! Remain calm, but at the same time,
press the buttons as fast as you can!!! If you
managed to get alot of hits in the combo, you'll most
likey defeat the Rider!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Rider will most likely drop the "Cursed Sword",
if not, then I feel sorry for you! Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!
The Cursed Sword is the strongest weapon in the game,
used by Ryu only. The more HP Ryu has, the more
powerful the Cursed Sword will be! On the downside,
the Cursed Sword will drain a bit of Ryu's HP each
turn. But that's not a big problem, just heal him up!
Here's a cool tip: If you took the time to try to
steal from the Rider, you may obtain the Cursed Sword
right then and there!!! If so, the Rider would have
been ALOT easier! Also, the Rider has the King's
Armor, which is worn by Scias only. Unlike the
Cursed Sword, the King's Armor is rare, but
worth the effort trying to obtain it! It's the best
armor for Scias, and it has the same effect as the
skill "Focus"! To conclude this FAQ... Once
you've defeated the Rider once, don't stop! Keep
defeating him to earn great cash! Just simply sell
all the Cursed Swords he drops for some good zenny!
How do you think I obtained 9999999 zenny?
